  Hanoi Open University is a public own University created by the decision number 535/TTG dated 11/3/1993 of the Prime Minister.

  It runs on the Vietnamese public own Universities system that is managed directly by the Ministry of Education and Training, serves as a Public University. Hanoi Open University has been focusing on training and researching methods of learning such as distance learning and face to face learning in order to meet learning s' need and takes part in training well - qualified manpower for our country.

 

   Founded on 15 March 1993, the Faculty of Information Technology and Management is specialized in training computing engineers in two specializations as follow:
 - 01: System Management
 - 02: Applied Informatics
 - Training Code: 01 0210
 - Training system:
    + Regular training 
    + In - service Training (on job training) 
    + Distance Training 
    + Training program for 2nd specialization 
    + Non degree skills training. 

   Since 1997, after 5 years in hardship of lacking of material facilities, the Faculty of Information Technology and Management now has had a good infrastructure with 12 class rooms and a meeting - hall, 4 computer rooms with 2 Internet connection lines and 120 computer for training, plus a reading room with over 500 categories of specific books and 30 newspaper and magazines all dedicated for students.
 

   In 2002, we start putting distance training into practice after a long time for thorough preparation while Sukho Thai Thammathirat, Shanghai or Kunming Broadcasting and Television University, China with 20-25 years experienced have just carried out 

   This year, more than 2000 students of different levels including 1000 students (50%) for full-time training, 500 students (25%) for  In-service training, 500 students (25%) for distance training; students for 1-year technician training and 2-years course to get LCCIEB qualifications for information and management, are being trained at Faculty of Information Technology and Management - Hanoi Open University.

   At present, the teaching staff of the Faculty includes about 80 core cadres, long term contract and collaborators. Among them, 12 are professors, associate professor, and 12 Dr.Sc and M.Sc.
 Twenty four textbooks and learner's guides have been edited and published for In -Service training and Distance training. Six training software have been putting in use. Besides, the Faculty's website has been also developing separatedly from the common website of the University, contributing to the rank of the first distance training centers in Vietnam.

   Therefore, Faculty of Information Technology and Management is one of the 4 University in Vietnam that have been selected to be subcontractors for software companies such as Harvey Nash Group and their partners who is FPT in Vietnam for IT engineers training supports.
 Most of our graduates have passed successfully the companies screening tests (even with foreign companies) and have been undertaking good positions. In the year of 2001, among 1500 graduates there were one Dr.Sc and 18 M.Sc. Although that number is not much but it would be proud for our faculty with 9 years in operations. 
 

  In earlier years, our students were self-conscious about their faculty due to their real ability. But now, Faculty of Information Technology and Management is a prestigious training center and accepted.
        With all the operational works during the past 9 years, we can absolutely be proud of our faculty's today development on training IT professionals. Nine years period is just a short time in comparison with a human life of the history of hundreds years of a university. The Faculty of Information Technology and Management has been continuously growing and making considerable contributions to the state's industrialization and modernization process in IT era
        Future is in hands who are students of Faculty of Information Technology and Management- Hanoi Open University as well as other students of the IT world.
