What is the Open Learning program?

The Open Learning program is an open admission distance mode of study that provides access to degree-credit university courses for individuals who wish to study independently but are not interested in pursuing a degree at the Hanoi Open University at the present time.

+ Open on candidates:
To us, Open means more than distance learning. It means recognition for non-traditional learning. It means working with communities, employers, and individuals here in Vietnam and around the world to develop unique and responsive programs. It means helping you manage the place, the pace, and the format for your learning needs.
+ Open on the provision of access:
With the forms of distance learning, online- training via radio or television..., students do not need to centralize on any school in main cities. Distance education allows you to study at home or in your office, according to your own schedule. You are both able to do daily work and study.
Students are not obligated to join classes on fixed time. You are entitled to choose suitable time for you in learning duration.
+ Open on training curriculum:
You can choose at your convenience. Either participating in a standard training course which students may use for credit toward a college certificate or diploma or studying several subjects to improve their knowledge and meet the needs of lifelong learning

+ By 2000: 95% graduates got desired job.

Based on a full service facility and training abilities of FIT-HOU, the Ministry of Education and Training assigns FIT-HOU the task to get 10% IT students of nation-wide public universities.
Distance training:
It is established only 2 years lately with a 5-year distance training course and thus it's too soon to estimate the quality of this training form.

- FIT-HOU offers optimal ways to improve the quality of learning such as:
+ Applying advance training methods: self-learning programs, on-line training
+ Intensifying hands-on practice training for distance-learning students approximates to the volume for regular training students.
+ Having participation of the best teaching staffs in training.
+ Examinations are organized seriously at the end of each semester. The rate of successful candidates in each final exam is different but the studying results of students are entirely reliable.

What is Online Learning?
On-line Learning is a training form that incorporates computer conferencing, e-mail, computer-based quizzes, and the Internet as an innovative learning environment.

In traditional learning form, it is also called face-to-face learning, students get information directly from teachers. One important factor in teaching-learning process is the two-sided communication between teacher and students, student and student. Students who are self-educated by supported materials like textbooks, videotapes, audiotapes, radio, television... lacking in that two-sided communication.
 - On-line learning was set up to create the two-sided communication between student and virtual teacher or virtual students via computer networks or Internet.
 - On-line training also encourages students' self-educated consciousness, enables students to reach reliable source of information that more various than lectures of  teacher in class.
 - Nowadays, On-line training is a popular training form over the world. It not only helps self-educated students, distance-training students in learning but also give a lot of useful information to students who are pursuing the traditional training form.

What is the difference between computer engineers trained at the FIT-HOU and computer engineers trained at other universities?

Informatics as well as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,... is a scientific branch that has specific fields and methods in studying.
- Graduates with a university degree from any field in any school are certified a Bachelor degree in accordance with the definition of the Ministry of Education and Training.

 - Some traditional appellations are still in use such as Doctor for graduates from Medical College, Pharmacist for graduates from College of Pharmacy, Architect for graduates from architectural departments, Engineer for graduates from industrial branches likes  electrical engineers, constructional engineers, mechanical engineers, computer engineers,... There is not any distinction on grade or training level between Engineer and Bachelor.

 - In the domain of training, however, each university, each specific faculty may have different training objectives or traditional training methods. Some specialize in researching theory and deeply developing their scientific fields. Some specialize in researching applications or hands-on skills in specific fields...

 - Main objectives of the Faculty of IT- Hanoi Open University is training skilled computer engineers for researching and applying computer applications in economy, society and life.

Founded on 15 March 1993, the Faculty of Information Technology and Management has specialized in training computer engineers in two categories: Management Informatics (TQ) and  Applied Informatics (TP). Computer engineers graduated from the FIT-HOU are required to have good knowledge and skilled hands-on experience on IT to research and apply computer applications in economical management, financial accountancy, social management, production management... (TQ) as well as in technology, industry and other scientific technological branches. (TP)
